A Cozy Sunset Portrait Session with Remi & Shawn (and Their Sweet Pups!) at Lake Rebecca Park

I recently had the joy of photographing Remi and Shawn’s portrait session at Lake Rebecca Park in Hastings, and Minnesota gave us the dreamiest sunset to work with. Warm light, fall colors, and two very adorable fur babies—Hattie and Penny—made the whole evening feel extra special.

The dogs were a little squirrel! with all the new smells (if you’ve brought pups to a session before, you know exactly what I mean), but they did such a great job. We still managed to snag some really sweet shots of them, and honestly, their personalities made the session even more fun.

As we walked, Remi shared that Hattie is very much a COVID baby—the kind of pup who wants her people close at all times. She also told me she and Shawn actually met online during COVID, which made their story feel even more meaningful. Even in uncertain seasons, life has a way of bringing the right people together.

Between the two of them, Remi and Shawn have four kids—two each—and you can see the pride all over their faces when they talk about their family. And though Minnesota gave us the perfect setting for this chapter, these two actually got married on the beach in St. Augustine, Florida, surrounded by family. Hearing them talk about their wedding day was such a sweet glimpse into their story. (Sounds like traveling together is a big part in general with their story!)

I’m so grateful they trusted me to capture this season of their lives—dogs, love, laughter, and all. Sessions like this are the reason I adore what I do.
