It’s such a joy to watch families grow through the years, and this one holds a special place in my heart. I’ve been photographing the Andersons since they were expecting their first little one — and now, here they are with two big kids in the wonderful, whirlwind stage of toddlerhood. We met for their fall mini session at the Hastings Lock and Dam, where the light danced off the river and the trees hinted at fall — even though the air felt more like summer. The kids were full of energy and curiosity, which made for so many sweet and silly moments. To help bring out those natural smiles, we started with the classic “Say cheese!” but little Everett had a better idea. He confidently switched it up to “Cheesy potatoes!” — and just like that, the giggles took over. That’s what I love most about photographing families in this stage — the joy that comes so easily, the laughter that spreads, and parents who embrace every bit of the chaos with love and patience. Looking through these images, I’m reminded how special it is to walk alongside families year after year — from maternity sessions to milestones and everything in between. The Andersons radiate warmth, laughter, and the kind of connection that makes these moments so worth capturing. Here’s to all the “cheesy potatoes,” real smiles, and the sweet simplicity of family life.
