Cayden | Hastings High School Senior at Lake Rebecca

Some senior sessions are all about the big things—sports, future plans, accomplishments... And then there are the little stories you hear while you're walking around together that tell you just as much about someone.

Cayden is a senior at Hastings High School and a striker on his soccer team. Soccer has been a pretty big part of his life for years, and it doesn't stop when the school season ends. He also plays year-round on a club team, so there's plenty of time spent on the field, working on his game and doing what he loves.

For his senior session, we spent a beautiful evening walking around Lake Rebecca, finding some great spots for photos and talking about what's next.

Cayden is hoping to study Kinesiology after high school and is considering both St. John's University and the University of Minnesota Morris. It seems like a pretty natural fit for someone who has spent so much of his life around sports and movement.

When he's not at school, soccer, or hanging out with friends, you might find him at work—where he gets to work alongside some of those same friends. There are currently eight people employed there, so apparently the friend group knows how to keep things interesting — and get in a bonus workout? 😂

But one of my favorite things about Cayden's session wasn't about soccer or school or what he wants to do after graduation.

Cayden shared that recently he stopped when he saw a girl in the middle of the road. When he stopped, he learned she was trying to help a turtle cross. So he walked over, picked it up, and carried it safely across the road. Turtle saved. Does he know what kind it was? Nope. But he was willing to stop, help, and do something that probably wasn't exactly part of his normal routine.

It's such a simple little story, but those are the kinds of things I love learning about during senior sessions. The things that don't necessarily make it onto a senior questionnaire but give you a glimpse into the person behind the photos.

So yes, we got the soccer senior pictures.
We got the classic senior portraits.
We walked around Lake Rebecca on a beautiful evening.

But we also got to slow down, talk, laugh, and capture a little bit of who Cayden is right now.

A Hastings senior.
A striker.
A year-round soccer player.
A friend.
A future Kinesiology student.

And, apparently, a guy who stops to help others when they need it.
Not a bad list of things to remember from this season of life. ❤️

Cayden, I hope whatever comes next brings you plenty of good soccer, great friends, and opportunities to keep doing the things you love.
