There are some senior sessions that feel like a portrait session from beginning to end—and then there are the ones that turn into a little bit of everything. Sydney’s session was definitely the latter, which I loved because it was so her! Sydney is a senior at Park High School, and when we started planning her session, we knew we wanted to include some of the things that make her who she is right now. That meant her new motorcycle, her boyfriend, her brother and his Supra, and plenty of time for her own senior portraits, too. And yes—her motorcycle is very new. She’s only had it for about two months! She actually got her permit before her boyfriend did, but he got his motorcycle first. Sydney got hers about a week after him, so naturally, a mini motorcycle couple session had to happen. (The two of them actually met while working at a haunted house, where they are both scare actors. ) Sydney also spends a lot of her time playing volleyball with Kokoro Volleyball Club. And this summer brought a pretty incredible opportunity—she was recruited to play with the USA team for two weeks in Costa Rica! But volleyball is only one of the things Sydney loves. She’s also a photographer herself, shooting with her Canon T7, so getting to photograph someone who enjoys photography too was especially fun. She’s spent her summers working at St. Croix Camp for about 10 years, too, which says a lot about the kind of person she is and the things she chooses to invest her time in. And then there’s Marvel. Sydney has watched through the Marvel movies five times. So, obviously, that had to make the list of things I learned about her during her session. She’s hoping to continue her education in forensic science with a minor in photography, which I think is such a cool combination of interests. Science, investigation, creativity, and photography all coming together in one future plan. And then there was her brother. Because sometimes senior pictures become sibling pictures, too. We made sure to spend some time with him and his Supra, and I absolutely loved getting a few photos of the two of them together with their vehicles. We also took some individual portraits of him with his Supra, because if you're bringing a car like that to a photo session, you might as well make the most of it. 😉 What I loved most about Sydney’s session was that it didn't feel like we were trying to fit her into a specific idea of what senior pictures should look like. We got the classic senior portraits. We got the motorcycle photos. We got the couple photos. We got the sibling photos. We got the Supra. We got to talk about volleyball, Costa Rica, photography, camp, Marvel, future plans, and all the random little things that make up this season of her life. And that's exactly what I love about senior sessions. You're not just documenting what someone looks like at 17 or 18. You're documenting who they are right now—the things they're passionate about, the people they love, the things they've worked hard for, and the dreams they're carrying into whatever comes next. Sydney, I hope you look back on these photos someday and remember not just your senior year, but this exact version of you—the volleyball player, photographer, scare actor, camp girl, Marvel expert, future forensic scientist, new motorcycle rider, sister, girlfriend, and Park High School senior. What a fun season to remember. ❤️
