Rainy and Golden Fall Family Photos at Pine Tree Pond – Cottage Grove, MN

It’s always such a joy to reconnect with families I’ve photographed before, and the Lawless family is one of those special ones. The last time I had them in front of my camera, I think their little lady was just a baby. This fall, we ventured to Pine Tree Pond in Cottage Grove for their mini session — and the weather had a few surprises in store for us! What started as a typical autumn evening quickly turned into a full-on downpour. Gotta love that unpredictable fall weather!

Thankfully, I had my trusty umbrella, and I tucked them under a tree to keep shooting. Some of my favorite images of the night came from those cozy, tucked-away moments together, where their patience and love for one another really shone.

Just when I thought I might call it, the rain passed and the sun came streaming back through the clouds. Everything sparkled — the trees, the grass, even the path beneath our feet — glistening with that fresh, after-the-rain magic you just can’t plan for. It was the perfect reminder that sometimes the most beautiful sessions come from rolling with whatever the evening brings.

I also have to give a shout-out to this mama for coming prepared. She pulled out mini marshmallows to keep her daughter engaged through the chaos, and it worked like a charm! Both parents showed such patience and grace as the weather shifted, and because of that, the session turned into something really special.
