Sometimes the sweetest connections come in unexpected ways. This family first reached out after spotting me photographing another family one evening in Hastings. Mom later wrote, “We haven’t had family photos done for about 5 years — and definitely none with the new baby. I felt it was a good nudge to reach out…” Those words led us here, to a golden summer night at Highlands Park in Cottage Grove. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect. Their oldest daughter was about to head back to college, and with little Rosie nearing 6 months, it was the ideal moment to gather everyone together. After five years without portraits, documenting their family — all together in this season — felt extra meaningful.
Highlands Park gave us the best backdrop: warm evening light, wide open skies, and plenty of space for the kids to laugh and play. The two boys brought energy and smiles, while their sisters balanced it out with tenderness (and a little teasing, too). Baby Rosie, of course, stole the spotlight. Her sweet expressions and the way everyone doted on her made it clear how loved she is. What struck me most was how natural this family was together. Between big milestones — heading off to college, growing their family, raising little ones — they simply enjoyed being side by side. And that’s what family photos are all about: pausing long enough to celebrate the relationships and everyday joy you don’t want to forget. It was an honor to capture these long-awaited portraits before the busy fall season began. Highlands Park gave us the beauty of summer, but this family gave us the heart. 💛
