The Hastings Lock and Dam was the perfect spot for another round of fall mini sessions — golden light, warm temps that still felt like summer, and families full of laughter. I had just finished photographing the Andersons when the next family arrived, and right away we couldn’t help but smile — Sydney happened to be twinning outfit-wise with the Andersons’ little girl! Great minds (and adorable fall wardrobes) really do think alike. It’s always a joy when kids bring their unique personalities to a session, and these two girls did just that. Cora showed off her spunky, creative side, striking silly poses and dancing between moments. Sydney stayed within her big sister character, and together they turned our time by the river into a mix of play, laughter, and joy. Before long, we wrapped up the session the best way possible — with both girls tossing rocks and sticks into the Mississippi River, watching the ripples shimmer in the golden light. Those in-between moments, the unplanned giggles and carefree smiles, are the ones that make family sessions like this so special. Every family brings their own energy, love, and story — even when we meet in the same place. This session was a reminder that it’s not just about the setting, but about the people who fill it with life and laughter. I’m so thankful to continue capturing those stories for families year after year.
