Sometimes the best moments are the ones you fight a little to make happen—and this extended family session was one of those. After a reschedule due to rain, we met on a chillier-than-usual June day at a new spot: Camel Hump Park, tucked away in a quiet Cottage Grove neighborhood. Perched above the highway, Camel Hump offers this unexpected high-up view of the surrounding area—almost like the world slows down just a bit when you're standing there. And on this cloudy afternoon, with rain threatening to return at any moment, it felt like we had the park all to ourselves. This session was extra meaningful because one branch of the family had traveled in from North Carolina, making the most of their time back in Minnesota. With extended family living in different states, they’ve made it a priority to get photos anytime they’re all together—and I love that heart so much. The crew included grandparents, their two daughters and sons-in-law, and two energetic cousins—each family with one son. The boys were full of personality and ideas (per usual!), adding playful energy and creative poses that had all of us laughing. From jumping shots to spontaneous action poses, they kept things fun and fresh. Despite the gray skies, the warmth of this family more than made up for it. We captured sweet grandparent portraits, siblings laughing, couples reconnecting, and of course, the big group photo that tells the story of togetherness across time zones and seasons. To this wonderful family—thank you for braving the weather and carving out the time. Your commitment to documenting these moments is a gift to future generations.
