FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
DO YOU SHOOT AS A HUSBAND AND WIFE TEAM ALWAYS?
It depends. Weddings, yes. Portrait sessions, no. For your wedding day, we value the husband and wife teamwork that happens. So much so that Mark & I are both included in whatever package you book. After all, you're becoming a hubby and wife team, so we'll be there right alongside you in your day and able to provide the uniqueness of having gone through it ourselves. If you're looking for portrait photography, I, Lindsay, am the one that will be capturing your session. My husband, Mark, can always be added to your session -- otherwise, he's spending time playing with our little men!
DO YOU SHOOT DIGITAL OR FILM?
We shoot digital.
WHAT CAMERA & LENSES DO YOU SHOOT WITH?
We shoot with a Canon 5D Mark III & a Canon 6D as well as have a Canon 7D ready to go as a necessary backup. I also have a variety of lenses that I bring with me to every session. My favorite lenses are my Sigma 35mm F/1.4 ART lens, Sigma 85mm F/1.4 lens, and Canon 50mm F/1.4 lens. I also have a variety of flashes I can use, so indoor photos aren't a problem!
WHAT TIME OF DAY SHOULD I SCHEDULE MY PHOTOS?
Quality of light is the most important detail outside of the subject. While it takes some discipline and searching, it can be found most anywhere. We recommend our portrait sessions to stick as close to sunrise or sunset. The more you get towards the middle of the day, the more harsh shadows and over-exposure.
WHAT IS YOUR STYLE?
We are going to create images that feel fresh and natural. To avoid those stiff awkward prom or family photos. We want photos that feel like you. Not only that, we’re going to take some really great traditional portraits because as much as we love these fun fresh editorial photographs, they’re so fun – but we also want to make sure you have a photo on your wall and one you can share with your family and grandparents that shows you looking at the camera showing how joyful and excited you are about this stage of life. For us our style is all about capturing the joy in life.
WHERE DO YOU TAKE OUR PHOTOS?
The location for portraits is the stage for your session and images. Do you love the city life? Are you an outdoor person? Do you enjoy more of a vintage, small town feel? Do you have a special spot in your house? With your taste in mind, we strive to find interesting locations that have a good variety of light, color, and textures. Our sessions are shot on location throughout the Twin Cities and surrounding area.
DO YOU TRAVEL FOR SESSIONS/WEDDINGS?
We love to travel -- especially to explore new places! If you have a place you would like to use for your session, send me a message and I'm sure I can make it work! Not sure where you want your photos taken? No worries, I have a ton of great spots in my back pocket. I'm also familiar with traveling for destination weddings (check out Nate & Chantelle's day).
HOW DO I ACCESS MY PHOTOS AFTER THEY ARE DONE BEING EDITED?
We use an awesome online personal gallery called Pass. It allows you to download the photos onto your phone or computer, share them on social media, or purchase prints directly from your gallery as an option, but not a requirement. Plus, it keeps them online for ten years! So, no rush looking through them and you can share the link with friends & family. Once you have downloaded your photos onto your computer you can print them from wherever you would like -- though I would suggest staying away from printing at Target, Walmart, Walgreens, etc. I recommend using Shutterfly.com, Mpix.com, or printing through your online gallery.
DO I HAVE TO PRINT THROUGH YOU? CAN I PRINT THROUGH YOU?
You totally don't have to print through us. All of our pricing includes a print release. This allows you to print what you want where you want. However, we get clients from time to time who want their photos printed through a print house or just easier experience. We get that too, so in your photo gallery there is an option to order prints directly through there. We receive a credit if you choose to go this way, but we don't push it at all. I partner with White House Custom Colour, one of the leading and most respected print house in the nation, and it happens to be pretty much in our backyard, so YAY for supporting a local business!
HOW FAR OUT DO I NEED TO BOOK YOU?
Good question! It depends on what you're booking for and when. If you are booking a wedding, I recommend at least 3 months before but it never hurts to check if we are available. Also, we don't book more than a year ahead. For family, engagement, or portrait sessions typically a few weeks to a month is plenty of time. Obviously, during high traffic months like September & October it's a lot harder to squeeze you in!
