The only time I like the sun setting so early during winter is that you can get golden hour photo at 4:00 pm, which in winter means you won't get the coldest temperature of the day. What's golden hour? Great question. It's that gorgeous golden hue that you see in the background of each of these photos. It means the sun is almost down and with that, we can take photos anywhere. When the sun is at it's peak height, you have harsh shadows and have to hang out under shaded areas (unless there is good cloud coverage). This is why photographers love golden hour -- it's golden and it's freedom to take photos anywhere! It was so fun getting to meet and hang with all of Katie's family -- both of her adorable kids, her sisters, and her parents. Katie came prepared with the different breakout groups of photos she would like which made the process so nice and quick in the cooler temperatures. We tried to keep warm by wearing coats in between photos, but one of the benefits of a cooler photo is that everyone naturally sticks so closely together! Katie, so glad I got to take your family photos! Your kiddos did amazing for being in the cooler weather so long. I so appreciate seeing how thoughtful you were. You made sure that everyone got every and any photo they would like to have on their wall on home. You were so joyful and loving amidst the photo craziness and weren't afraid to be goofy to keep those smiles real. Hope you love each and every photo!
