Can I say there’s just something added cool about showing up to a senior photo shoot of someone that you personally know? Like maybe you aren’t super close, but you’ve seen the person and had conversations with them multiple times and, so, when you arrive at their senior portrait session, it just feels a little bit familiar and yet different. Different? In a bad way? Not at all. More like when you watch a butterfly emerge from a cocoon. You blink twice and realize rather suddenly that he or she is no longer that “young kid” anymore, but someone emerging and on the brink of adulthood. This is exactly how I felt showing up for Juli’s senior portraits in South Saint Paul. How is Juli already a senior? I think her mom shared the same feelings as she said, “Lindsay! You’re going to make me cry! I just can’t handle this!” within the first few moments of the shoot when I showed her the first few photos of her beautiful daughter. We walked amongst the trees on a beautiful fall evening, watching the sun peak through the golden leaves and hearing the crunch of the already fallen leaves below. Oh how beautiful this time of year is. The chillness in the air as the sunsets and the fluttering of leaves drifting to the world below. While we walked and talked, we once again listened to BTS as we did with her older sister, Megan, for her senior photos at a sunflower field in Isanti only a year ago. We talked about life after high school and future hopes and dreams; Juli excited for the options ahead. Juli, so excited for you! I am sure the past few years weren’t quite what you expected, but I pray that you’ve had a chance to experience a strong foundation that as the wind blows and the seasons change, you can stand strong because you’ve been built up by deep roots below. Hope you enjoy the final days in high school!
