Mark told his mom that we haven’t crawled into bed before 11:30 pm in the past two weeks and he’s right. We’ve been pushing really hard. In fact, Lindsay totally got an email this week about the 25 Tips for Avoiding Mom Burnout with the subtitle of “a list for those who – like me – struggle with overcommitting and overworking.” Did she read it? No… Lindsay quickly skimmed the first few and then acknowledging that she need to spend more time thinking through them (and chatting with Mark), she printed them off to be completed and comprehended as homework at another date. What does this have to do with the Taylor family? We’re glad you asked! When Katrina reached out to us about doing a family photo session at their home in Newport, we were thrilled. Rarely are families wanting their lives documented in the place that they live their life out most often, so it was a refreshing breath of air. But this breath of air paled in comparison to the amazingness of stepping out their house into their backyard. As you’ll see by the photos below, the Taylors live on a beautiful river with a lusciously green and open backyard for their three boys to grow and explore within.
Lindsay photographed this session the week prior to us moving. We were living in a beautiful two-bedroom condo with a 10x10 foot yard. Yeah, not much room for the boys to explore on, but we’ve been grateful for it none the least. So, when Lindsay stepped onto their back porch and got to spend the evening laughing with the Taylors family outdoors, she couldn’t help but leave feeling refreshing in nature and so excited for our own backyard. In fact, number 22 of the 25 tips is “Think about the things that you do to relax … and whether they actually relax you. Do you know what rejuvenates you?” Finally having our own backyard to go out whenever we please, to roam barefoot and laugh and giggle as a family is relaxing and rejuvenating. We can only imagine the countless hours and games the Taylors family play outside in their backyard. Their love for wrestling and laughing with one another, their desire to protect nature and enjoy it, and their ability to look up and take in a stunning river sunset is refreshing. Taylors family, thanks for the laughs! I so enjoyed being with you all in your backyard and encouraged to press on in the moving process so we too could have our own backyard! Hope those ice cream sundaes were amazing!
