Whenever I get the opportunity to drive to a client’s home and be invited into their everyday life by doing a lifestyle portrait session, I can’t wait to soon be heading back to my home and importing the photos, so I can relive the specialness of relationships and moments of daily life. This was definitely the case in getting to capture little Eliza’s newborn portraits in her family’s Cottage Grove, MN home. I knocked on the door and watched as it slowly opened before me until a little blonde head peeped around the corner with a smile from ear to ear. Emma walked up the stairs before me, showing off her adorable twirl in her fun striped dress that matched her mommy’s shirt. Ricky came from around the corner and proudly pointed out where his Nintendo Switch was. We all walked back to mom and dad’s bedroom where little Eliza was resting, and we started taking some family portraits. Ricky and Emma, Eliza’s older siblings, watched closely behind me and asked lots of curious questions as I took photos of little Eliza and her parents. I could tell by both their reactions and interactions that they are absolutely smitten with their little sister – especially when they both shared such excitement about being able to hold her. I got to ask the two a bit later while Eliza was eating what their favorite part of having a new baby sister was, and Ricky paused thoughtfully and answered, “Holding her!” Emma promptly agreed.
Rick and Julia, congrats on such a precious new bundle! We are praying for this transition time for you and hope you are enjoying all of the snuggles! I remember when we previously had talked that you shared you probably were done having kids, so to have this extra special addition is going to be a fun curveball in this lifelong journey. I did a quick Google search (thanks, Google!) and it said that Eliza means, “my God is bountiful” – praying this is something you will say again and again as you parent this little one!
