What to Wear For Senior Sessions

How To Look Your Best For Your Senior Photos

Literally the first question we get after booking a senior session is, "what should I wear for my senior photos?" It's a great question and one we decided was long overdue for a blog post. So without further ado, here's "What to Wear For Senior Sessions" -- and spoiler alert, when you book with us, we share an even more detailed guide of what we'd recommend.

1. Wear something that you actually wear in your everyday life.

You might be thinking, "Um, duh, Lindsay," but I'm serious. You don't know how many times I've talked with clients about their outfits and they ask if a particular style or color is better than another for senior photographs and when I ask if they wear it normally their answer is no.

Your senior photos are YOUR senior photos. So, wear clothes that you would normally wear in your day-to-day life. This also means that you wear the colors that you wear in your everyday life.

There are two exceptions to this rule. One is that you might want to have a more dressed up option in your repertoire -- feel free to bring that beautiful dress or handsome tux. The second option is if we are doing a styled senior shoot where you want a gorgeously young and free approach to your senior photographs.

2. Wear clothes that don't distract from who you are.

I feel like I'm on a rerun of "What Not to Wear" here, but for your senior photo's sakes, try to stay away from the neon colors or extreme patterns.

Once again. these are your senior photos, so picking bright outfits or extreme prints can take away from who you are.

If you're really wanting some bright options or prints, we get it and recommend that you use them as accessories for ladies -- find a cute scarf or fun jewelry. For dudes? We are totally okay with some awesome neon t-shirts as long as their one of your 3 - 4 options.

Now hear me out here, extreme prints are extreme, they are not simple details like the darker spots above on Travis' blue AE button up shirt or the stripes on Molly's gorgeous dress on the right.

3. Wear outfits and bring things that represent who you are.

I put up three options of how sports can be implemented into your senior photography. We love a good action shot if you're okay getting a little sweaty -- I mean, you play sports so that should be a yes ;) Sports are just one area of wearing things that represent who you are and should be one or possibly two of your 3 - 4 outfits you bring along (if you really want two, I suggest five outfits in total).
Another way to represent yourself is expressing other hobbies or interests -- a perfect example being music. We love when you bring your guitar, violin, or banjo on a shoot. In fact, we often ask for you to play a little something so beware!

Our final note in this category is to reiterate the first point of if you don't normally wear it, don't bring it. If you never wear a dress, then having all three of your outfits be dresses is probably not representing who you are.

Almost forget to mention if you love hats, feel free to bring them too!

Okay, so if you still have questions, feel free to reach out! Congrats on entering your senior year!
