Elizabeth & Robert's MN Woods Intimate Gathering at Their Family's Home in Finlayson, Minnesota

Challenging would be an understatement when you’re planning a wedding during a pandemic and you’re halfway across the country, and yet, Elizabeth and Robert did it! These native Minnesotans moved to Portland for Elizabeth’s dental school and so once they got engaged, they knew they had their work cut out for them in planning a wedding day back in Minnesota. Then came the mandates and impending unknowns, so they chose to switch things up and enjoy an intimate wedding at Robert’s family home in Finlayson. As they said in their own words, it wasn’t about being black tie, but having fun and showing it.

And they sure showed it! When it comes to weddings, we’ve seen a lot of new ideas, but we experienced not one but two firsts on their wedding day, which is a pretty impressive feat. These two had their immediate families in the first row switch sides after the processional, so they could see their loved one’s facial expressions versus the back of their head. How precious is that?! And when it came to vows, neither wanted to go first, so they rock, paper, scissored it out (you can see below for proof!) to see which one would be first during the ceremony.

If you can’t tell, Robert and Elizabeth just love being together and making the most of life. They met in school when Robert saw her in the yearbook and asked someone to introduce them, because he thought she was cute. You can find these two playing Pokemon Go, hanging outdoors at the ocean or state parks, snowboarding, and they have even tried hand dying flowers. Yup, you read that correctly. These two DIY-ed their wedding day florals. It is pretty impressive to find a guy who will even help you dye flowers! And they turned out beautifully!

Elizabeth and Robert, thanks for including us on your special day! As your officiant said, maple trees are adaptable, resilient, have beautiful color, and produce a sweet taste. We pray that this won’t only be the case for the unity tree that you planted, but also for your marriage. Continue to choose each other each and every day.
