Intimate Wedding Day Reception in Stillwater, Minnesota // Cayla + Nick

We first met these two pre-COVID for their adventure engagement photos at Afton State Park (It even included fishing!). They were ahead of the game, already planning an intimate elopement in the Colorado mountains for their wedding day the following year. But their plans for a reception? It got pushed around with all the things we all went through in the last year plus, so they settled on having a wedding reception here in Stillwater, Minnesota, for those near and dear to their hearts right after their one year anniversary.

Cayla still wanted it to be an absolutely special day, so she surprised her hubby, Nick, with a new dress this time around. These two were so laid back, so fun to be around, and so giggly that we felt like we barely had to work or coach them in their portraits, they just so naturally were in each other’s arms — laughing, kissing, and having a great time. When it came time for the rest of the family to join in and then head to their reception to see their guests, the kids quickly stole the dance floor as well as all the attention of those around. Our personal favorite part of Nick and Cayla’s day was just watching people laugh together. It is so refreshing to see such joy and happiness, to see people coming around a couple and supporting them on their marriage journey, and to see a couple a year out in marriage still looking like it was their first day of marriage.

Nick and Cayla, thanks so much for trusting us to capture your beautiful reception! It was an honor and a blast to hang out with you for the day. We hope you have an awesome second year of marriage — continuing to enjoy the day-to-day moments and interactions with one another. Some days will be easier than others, but remember to keep fighting for each other.
