Couldn’t get enough of these two’s proposal at Vermillion Falls? Don’t worry, we stepped back out into the snowy tundra of Minnesota to capture some more engagement photos. Want to know a secret? Engagement photo sessions (even when it’s your own sister taking them) are still stressful – there’s the what-to-wear, how-to-pose, am-I-doing-this-right for everyone – I’m serious! When Mark and I get our own photos taken, and I’m not the one behind the camera, I too struggle with what I’m doing, if I’m posing right, and will I like the photos? Yeah. Pretty much everyone struggles with their image. It’s part of being human and living in this world. ;)
So all this to say, it’s all about the expectation. Just like we tell our couples as they prepare for their wedding day, it’s all about the expectation. When we set our sights on the best wedding day and with everything that has to be planned – the dress, the tux, the hair & makeup, venue, bridal party, timeline, flowers, etc., it boils down to two options. We either get to the point where we set the bar so high that instead of enjoying the day, we’re running circles in it; or, two, we set the bar at being married by the end of it. Sound like a downer? It’s not! It gives us the ability to be grateful and focused on what matters most – being married by the end of it to your best friend. It gives us the ability to find joy in all of the simple things. It gives us the ability to breathe a little deeper. All this to say that life is flying by and we can either choose to rush from one moment to the next or be grateful for what we have – I mean it was Thanksgiving last week, wasn’t it?
Trav & Emma, so excited for your day! I know there’s a lot of excited, overwhelming, uncharted territory ahead as you plan it, but each time it starts to get to be too much, remember that the expectation is to leave the day walking hand-in-hand with your best friend into forever after and that anything else is a plus.
