Josh and Erin. It was such a fun time capturing their engagement photos at Highlands Park in Cottage Grove, but it was fun more than the fact that we were taking engagement photos, but because these two are great friends of ours. They met on our couch in our living room. Every time I say that, I can’t help but let out a little laugh and smile. You see, Josh lives like 400 feet from our house. But the story doesn’t start on our couch, I’d argue it goes farther back. In fact, if you take a step back, you’ll see that Erin has gone to our church for years. In the last few years, she and another young adult girl, Kaitlin, moved out of the homes they grew up in and became roommates. They have been faithful volunteers in our children and youth ministries at our church; they attended our young adult group back when it was for only women, and throughout the years have expressed a desire to date but hadn’t pursued it. We prayed for it and talked about it; and these two faithfully waited, questioned, and waited more as time seemed to go on. Then, September 19 of 2021 happened, and in walked Josh to our church. It was a weird Sunday to visit for the first time. Our leaders in our church put on a surprise retirement party for our senior pastor at the time and to stay for the service was one thing - as he had no idea - but a meal afterwards with people you’ve never met? Probably just sneak out… right? Josh tried, but one older gentleman asked what his plans were and when Josh hesitated (if he even did that), the gentleman said to him, “You’ve got nothing better to do.” Amazingly, Josh wasn’t insulted and joined in for lunch, hanging out for a while and chatting. But he had yet to meet Erin. It wasn’t until a young adult night at our house that they met each other for the first time. Shortly after at work, a coworker and he got connected, and he started to tag along for work. That coworker? Taylor, who came to the young adult Superbowl party at Josh’s house with the understanding that whoever Erin was was off-limits, but then he just so happened to meet his fiancé, Kaitlin. These two met on our couch — and they continue to come regularly and sit on our couches for young adults as well as for game nights after our kids go to bed. They are a couple who walk by and love on our kids, and our kids love on them back. They are people who you can ask for help, and they willingly give. To say that we’re excited for their wedding is an understatement… plus, the pastor who is going to marry them is pretty cute. Josh and Erin, thanks for all you do and who you are out of your love for God. So excited for you!
