Maka tunka shunka. Huh? Agreed! But this is the latest phrase/friendly greeting as stated by one of the Burton family’s boys. He apparently has coined this funny phrase all by himself and uses it often. We just adapted it to maka tuka smoocha during the shoot – a staple every time we had mom and dad kiss! This silly phrase is only a sample of the fun that we had a Lake Ann Park in Chanhassen, Minnesota, while taking their family photos. When you have a great night with a great family, it’s the best! We spent the gorgeous evening “playing” football (with no ball), leaf fights, walking Lake Ann’s paths, and talking about everyday life -- even our favorite YouTube channels. A couple tidbits I gleaned from this trip was that they’re Kansas University fans and how Jonah got his name. I found out they’re Kansas University fans when I popped my car trunk and revealed the Husker cornhole game sitting inside. When they found out I was actually not a Husker fan,but my senior pastor was and we had borrowed this game, they were relieved but then I shared I was a Michigan fan, which to them wasn’t a problem. (Do you notice they happen to be wearing Michigan colors for their photos? Maybe they don’t realize that they’re fans, too…) On a more cool note, Keri shared that the reason why they picked Jonah’s name was in part to his big brother, Jacob. Jacob loved the Veggie Tales’ story of Jonah and how he got stuck in the fish, so when they referred to the baby growing in mommy’s belly, they called him Jonah – you know, the one in the belly of mommy instead of the belly of the whale? Which all of this is ironic because I literally just read the story of Jonah to my two boys at bedtime tonight! Burton family, thank you for such a fun night out enjoying the beautiful fall sunsets and watching how you so beautifully maneuver life with three active boys. I took notes and left so refreshed to see how you two are so loving to one another, so intentional with your boys, and so fun to be with as a family! May you continue to enjoy being with one another whether wrestling, playing football, watching YouTube, or just a beautiful night outdoors.
